Tenorio, Robert – Open Bowl with Four Deer

8.5"w x 3.5"h

$ 300.00

This is a traditional open bowl by Robert Tenorio.  The bowl is slipped white and is painted with wild spinach (black) and two different colors of clay.  The exterior has a star design.  The interior has four deer, each painted with red and copper-colored clay. The ground is also copper-colored clay.  The bowl was traditionally fired.  The bowl’s rim has a “spirit line” or a break in the painted line around the rim.  This goes back to historic Kewa pottery, when the artist would use the spirit line to release their spirit or connection from the vessel.  The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Robert T, Kewa”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
