Tenorio, Thomas – Jar with Flower and Pueblo Motifs (2008)
Thomas Tenorio is from the Aguilar family of Kewa Pueblo. Amazingly, he taught himself to make pottery! This tall jar is a distinctive shape with a very high shoulder and rounded neck. The jar is fully designed with a pueblo scene around the rim. Below that is a wild spinach design (the plant used to make the black on the pottery). Around the center of the jar is a striking plant design in sections, inspired by the older Aguilar pieces of Kewa pueblos. The piece is signed on the bottom, “Thomas Tenorio”. It is from 2008. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
