$ 1,800.00

Camilla “Mia” Toya (b. 1974) is a daughter of Maxine Toya and a sister of Dominique Toya.  She began making pottery when she was 14 years old.  Each piece is coil-built, carved, stone-polished and painted with clay slips.  This is one of her classic lidded vessels. This jar has 50 swirling melon ribs carved into the clay.  Each rib is highly polished red. They extend from the neck to the base.  The neck of the jar is slipped with mica.  The jar has a lid that is a sculpted round kiva with stairs.  It is also slipped with mica.  Mia says, “I have a strong passion for creating my own style of art.”  The piece is striking in color and creative in design.  It is signed, “Camilla Toya”.
