Toya, Maxine & Dominique – Polychrome Jar with Birds and Corn
This is an exceptional piece by Maxine Toya and her daughter, Dominque Toya. Dominque made the jar and Maxine painted the designs. The jar is a classic water jar shape. The neck and base are both slipped with mica. The body of the jar is fully painted with six colors of clay to create the designs! There are four different scenes with birds and rainbows over the birds. Separating them are sections with corn (colored to match the Four Directions!). Each bird is different and the entire jar is perfectly painted! It is an elegant piece by these two exceptional potters. The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Maxine Toya + Dominque Toya”.
