5"w x 8.25"h

$ 1,500.00

Maxine Toya is well known for her figurative pottery. This is the first time we have had a new Corn Maiden from her.  The Corn Maiden is a prayer for corn and prosperity. She honors Mother Earth and her continuing ability to feed her children. The clay figure is sculpted on various levels with the corn husk extending out on the sides and the front and back fully polished a deep red.  The kernals of corn are sculpted around her neck and painted with various colors of clay.  The face is sculpted and delicate in form.  The figure was traditionally fired.  It is a creative use of various clays, along with both sculptural and painted designs.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Maxine Toya”.
