Dora Tse-Pe learned to make pottery from her mother-in-law, Rose Gonzales. She was renowned for her beautifully formed and highly polished pottery. This is one of the earlier pieces we have seen of her pottery with a date from 1969. It is an “engagement basket” shape, which is a bowl with a handle. Here the handle is cameo carved, almost looking like a leather strap across the top. The piece is fully polished and fired a dark black coloration. It is signed, “Dora” and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
