Tse-Pe, Irene – Jar with Carved Double Avanyu and Feathers (1994)

Irene Tse-Pe (b. 1961) is a daughter of Dora Tse-Pe and Tse-Pe Gonzales and a granddaughter of Rose Gonzales.  This is the largest piece of her work we have had come back to the gallery.  The jar is coil-built, carved, stone-polished, and traditionally fired. The neck and base of the jar are fully polished.  There are feathers carved around the top of the neck. Around the side of the jar are two avanyu, along with tiny rainclouds!  The jar was traditionally fired red.  It was made in 1994.  The jar is signed, “Irene Tse-Pe”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
