Tso, Jared – 15″ Tall “Double Necklace” Traditional Jar with Swirling Polish (Ribbon)
$ 4,800.00
This is a striking large jar by Jared Tso. He is one of the rising stars of Native pottery. He is a grandson of potter Faye Tso and his pottery is exceptionally refined in technique and traditional in style. Each piece is coil-built from traditional native Navajo clay and traditionally fired. This jar has a tall shape with a round body and elongated neck. Around the neck there are two bands of designs, are the “necklace” of the jar. The piece is entitled “Double Necklace”. They are raised bands of clay that are then incised with designs. Take a closer look at the details. Jared said this was the first time he had used this particular design on the neck, and it has a very angular appearance. The jar is polished in a swirling angle. It was traditionally fired and then covered in pinon pitch after the firing. The colorations from black to brown are spectacular on this jar! They create edges and lines and swirls, and it is always just the “luck” of the firing what colorations will appear! It is exciting to see an artist find inspiration in the historic work and, using the same clays, refine them in a modernistic manner. The jar is signed, “Jared Tso”. It has a second-place ribbon from the 2024 Santa Fe Indian Market.
