This is a creative piece by Jared Tso.  The jar is coil-built and there is a handle. The handles is rounded out so that you can see through it!  The exterior is swirl polished, as is the inside of the handle!  The outside of the handle is scraped with a corn cob to give it texture. The inside of the jar was also scraped in a swirl pattern. The jar was traditionally fired to create a striking coloration on the surface.  After the firing, it was covered in pinon-pitch to create the shine.  The jar has amazing coloration from black to red.  It is signed, “Jared Tso”.

Jared Tso

Jared Tso is a fourth-generation Dine potter and a grandson of the famous Navajo potter Faye Tso. Each piece he builds is coil-built, burnished, and traditionally fired. Not only is he a potter, but he also has a degree in electrical engineering and his masters in fine art ceramics! Jared has made a life out of pottery and taught ceramics full-time at Diné College in Tsaile, Arizona. He has won the prestigious "Tony Da Innovation Award" (2022) at the Santa Fe Indian Market and "Best of Pottery" at the Heard Market (2023).
