This is a creative round jar by Jared Tso. He is a grandson of potter Faye Tso and his pottery is exceptionally refined in technique and traditional in style. Each piece is coil-built from traditional native Navajo clay and traditionally fired. This jar has a very round body. The neck of the piece has twelve indentions that then extend up to the points of the rim. The name of the jar, “Impact”, refers to when a droplet of water hits and there is an upward splash. The neck and rim of the jar are a reflection of the splash. The body of the jar is polished at a swirling angle. The entire piece was traditionally fired to create the colorful blushes on the surface. The piece is striking in form and then it was traditionally fired to create the amazing blushes on the surface. After the firing, it was covered in pinon pitch. It is exciting to see an artist find inspiration in the historic work, and, using the same clays, refine them in a modernistic manner. The jar is signed, “Jared Tso”.
