Tso, Jared – Open Bowl with Corrugated Interior and Swirled Polish Exterior

9.25"w x 4"h

$ 1,500.00

This is a thin-walled open bowl by Jared Tso. He is a grandson of potter Faye Tso and his pottery is exceptionally refined in technique and traditional in style.  Each piece is coil-built from traditional native Navajo clay and traditionally fired. This open bowl is swirl-polished on the exterior. The interior has a plain rim and then 26 rows of corrugation!  Each row of corrugation is symmetrical and each indention is at an angle, creating a swirl toward the center of the piece.  The bowl was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface.  After the traditional firing, it was covered in pinon-pitch.  It is exciting to see an artist find inspiration in the historic work, and, using the same clays, create something so dynamic.  Vessels such as this find strength in their traditional techniques yet are refined in a modern manner.  The jar is signed, “Jared Tso”.
