Tso, Jared – “Rainbow” 15″ Long Four-Sharp Shoulder Jar

15" long x 6.5"w x 7.5"h

$ 3,800.00

This is an extraordinary large jar by Jared Tso.  He is a grandson of potter Faye Tso and his pottery is exceptionally refined in technique and traditional in style.  Each piece is coil-built from traditional native Navajo clay and traditionally fired.  This jar is one in a new series with multiple sharp shoulders.  Technically, they are interesting pieces as at each edge, to continue to build up, they round inward and then back out to the next shoulder!  The sharp edge of each shoulder is visually striking and creates interesting angles for the light.  This jar is oval in shape and there are FOUR sharp shoulders on the jar.  Each one is slightly curved which Jared said was intentional, to look like the Rainbow or Rainbow Yei.  The top is flat and there is just a TINY neck!  The piece is striking in form and then it was traditionally fired to create the amazing blushes on the surface.  After the firing, it was covered in pinon pitch.  It is exciting to see an artist find inspiration in the historic work, and, using the same clays, refine them in a modernistic manner.  The jar is signed, “Jared Tso”.
