This is a classic form jar by Jared Tso.  The jar is made from Native clay and has a narrow base and tall sides. The exterior has “points”, which were often seen in historic work as a way to hold the piece.  The jar was swirl polished on the exterior. The piece was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface.  It was then covered in pinon-pitch after the firing in a traditional Navajo manner.   It is exciting to see an artist find inspiration in the historic work, and, using the same clays, create something so dynamic.  Vessels such as this find strength in their traditional techniques yet are refined in a modern manner.  The bowl is signed, “Jared Tso”.
