Tso, Jared – “Triple Ripple” Traditional Navajo Tall Jar

6.25"w x 10"h

$ 2,600.00

This is a thin-walled tall jar by Jared Tso.  He is one of the rising stars of Native pottery.  He is a grandson of potter Faye Tso and his pottery is exceptionally refined in technique and traditional in style.  Each piece is coil-built from traditional native Navajo clay and traditionally fired.  This jar has three sharp edges near the base of the jar.  These is his “ripples” that undulate from the base to the lower shoulder.  Then the jar extends up vertically to the rim.  The jar is polished in a swirl from the rim to the base.  The jar was then traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface. The colorations from black to brown are spectacular on this jar!  They create edges and lines and swirls, and it is always just the “luck” of the firing what colorations will appear!  After the firing, the jar is then covered  in pinon pitch.  It is exciting to see an artist find inspiration in the historic work and, using the same clays, refine them in a modernistic manner.  The jar is signed, “Jared Tso”.
