Kevin Spencer is one of the few Navajo male potters.  He is a son of potters Sue Willams and Lorenzo Spencer.  This wedding vase is coil-built and polished red.  Around the shoulder is an incised bird wing design.  The handle is braided. The design is reminiscent of Lorenzo’s pottery while the handle reminds one of Sue’s pottery style.  The piece was traditionally fired to create blushes on the surface.  After it was fired, it was covered in pinon pitch in the manner of historic Navajo pottery.  The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Kevin W”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
