Michelle Williams is a daughter of noted Navajo potter Alice Cling. This is a classic shape with a high shoulder and short neck. The jar is fully polished red. It was traditionally fired to create colorations on the surface that range from red to black. The piece was covered in pinon-pitch after the firing, a continuation of the traditional Navajo pottery when pine pitch was used to make the pottery waterproof. The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Michelle Williams”.
