Sue Williams is a daughter of Rose Williams and a sister of Susie Crank and Alice Cling. This tall jar is coil-built, stone-polished, and traditionally fired. The jar has a high, round shoulder and a scalloped or rounded rim. Around the shoulder, the jar is incised with star designs. The piece is highly polished and traditionally fired to create the coloration on the surface, and afterward, it is covered in pinon pitch. This was a traditional method historically used to make pottery waterproof. Today, potters continue this process as a testament to the past. The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Sue”.
