Sue Williams is a daughter of Rose Williams and a sister of Susie Crank and Alice Cling.  This new jar is coil-built, carved, stone-polished, and traditionally fired.  The jar is carved with five interlocking plant designs.  The jar has a round shape and a short neck.  There is an elegance to the symmetry and precision of the design.  The jar was traditionally fired to create blushes on the surface.   After the firing, the entire surface was covered in pinon pitch.  This was a traditional method historically to make the pottery waterproof. Today, potters continue this process as a testament to the past. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Sue”.  It is a new piece from Sue Williams, who has begun making more pottery again!
