Jimmy Wilson (b. 1935) lives in Leupp, Arizona. He and his wife make pottery with Navajo (Diné) images from Creation Stories drawn on their surface; sometimes colored. Wilson makes shallow, incised geometric designs of Navajo people on his vessels. This canteen is coil-built and incised with designs. One side has a Rainbow Yei and rising sun. The other side has a moon design with rain clouds. The designs are not just tightly etched but also have areas of texture. The jar was traditionally fired and covered in pinon-pitch. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jimmy Wilson”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
