Yazzie, Angie – 18″ Wide Micaceous Spiraling Cloud Bowl (2025)

Angie Yazzie is renowned for her thin-walled Taos pottery. Each piece is coil-built and made from micaceous clay from near Taos Pueblo.  Angie focuses on traditional shapes along with making each piece nearly paper thin!  It almost feels like there is nothing there when you hold one! This open bowl is carved to create spiraling step form.  It is often referred to as a cloud bowl or a “prayer bowl”.  The piece is made from micaceous clay so when it is fired it has a sparkling/metallic appearance.  Angie fires her pieces using wood to create the amazing blushes and colorations on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “Angie Yazzie”.  She has won numerous awards for her work, including “Best of Pottery” at Santa Fe Indian Market in 2017.

Angie Yazzie is the daughter of Mary Archuleta (Taos) and Nick Yazzie (Dine). Angie was raised at Taos Pueblo. She began making pottery when she was nine years old and learned from both her mother and her grandmother, Isabel Archuleta. She makes pottery from the Taos micaceous clay. Each piece is coil built and wood-fired. Angie has won numerous awards for her pottery, including “Best of Pottery” at Santa Fe Indian Market.
