Youngblood, Christopher – Lidded Jar with Swirls, Swirling Feathers and Lid (2018)
$ 7,500.00
Few potters are able to take their art form in a new direction. Christopher Youngblood is creating intricately carved vessels that reflect a perfect balance of matte and polished surfaces with intricately carved designs. This jar has two sections with circular swirls that are rounded. One section has 11 and the other has 9. They are rounded out like melon ribs and fully polished. Separating them are swirling feathers. One section has 26 feathers and the other, 23. Each of the feathers is fully polished. The remainder of the jar is matte. The jar has a lid, and each side has swirling circles. The remainder of the lid is matte. Chris is a perfectionist with the matte areas of his pottery, as they perfectly balance the highly polished designs. Chris says that he focuses on each piece, taking the time to work on the shape and stone-polish the surface to a high shine, often polishing a piece several times to get it right. The jar is from 2018 and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
