Youngblood-Lugo, Sergio – “The Tree of Life” Jar

4"w x 7.25"h

$ 3,000.00

Sergio Lugo is the middle son of noted potter Nancy Youngblood and a brother to Joseph Lugo and Christopher Youngblood.  He learned to make pottery from his mother.  Each piece is coil-built, carved or painted, stone polished, and traditionally fired. This jar is entitled, “The Tree of Life”.  It is carved with a tree on each side.  However, on the one side, the tree is actually a deer!  Honestly, I didn’t even see it until I was photographing the piece!  There is a stylized sun separating the two larger images.  The carved areas are stone polished red and the remainder is slipped with two different colors of mica.  The jar was traditionally fired.  It is a creative use of design and form.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Sergio Lugo”.
