Amazing!  This is an incredible jar carved by Nancy Youngblood.  The jar is one of her cylindrical shapes which is always technically difficult to create with such straight sides.  The design is made of various swirls and spirals.  They are each rounded out in the style of her classic melon swirls.  Here they each interconnect with one another creating a stunning flow across the surface of the jar.  There are even three melon ribs which extend from the neck to the base.  The jar has been traditionally fired and has dark black to nearly metallic appearance to the black. The matte areas are a beautiful contrast to the stone polished surfaces.  Nancy has won numerous awards for her melon bowls, and this is undoubtedly a creative use of her melon rib style!
