Nancy Youngblood is known for her swirl melon bowls and carved pottery.  This amazing piece is one of what she calls her “micro-minis”.  It is even smaller than her usual miniatures!  This piece has 8 ribs which swirl down from the top to the base.  This style is her “S” swirl as they curve back and forth creating an “S” shape.  They are among her more difficult styles of ribs to carve and polish.  The entire piece is fully polished and fired red, which is always more difficult than the black in terms of firing.  Consider that each rib has two “sides” to be polished and the surface area of the piece is about double its size!  Nancy has won numerous awards for her melon bowls, and this is undoubtedly a amazing example of her skill!
