Youngblood, Nancy – Mini Swirl Melon Rib Open Bowl
3" long x 1.25"h
Nancy Youngblood is known for her swirl melon bowls and carved pottery. This is an exceptional piece of her miniature pottery. It is an oval shaped bowl with handles on the end. The handles are carved as if they were “twisted” and slipped with mica. It’s the remainder of the piece that is quite exceptional. The outside of the bowl is deeply carved with an “s” swirl melon rib which extends up from the base to the rim. Looking inside the bowl, there is then an elongated “s” swirl which extends the length of the bowl! In addition to all the carving, the entire piece (except for the handles) is fully stone polished. Consider that each rib has two “sides” to be polished and the surface area of the piece is about double its size! Nancy has won numerous awards for her melon bowls, and this is undoubtedly an amazing example of her skill!
