This is a traditionally shaped jar by Nathan Youngblood.  The jar has a round shape and a slightly turned out rim. The design has a carved handle on one side. The neck has a very deeply carved cloud design.  Below that is a walking bear paw pattern.  The handles are carved with small notches and slipped with mica.  As the jar is a traditional shape to hold water, the use of the walking bear paw design is appropriate.  The jar is very highly polished to a glassy appearance.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay “Nathan Youngblood” and the hallmark of his name in Tewa.
