This is a classic storage jar by Nathan Youngblood.  The jar has a round shape and a short neck.  The jar is made from native clay, carved, stone polished and traditionally fired.  The jar is a storage jar shape with a very round body. Storage jar also create a lot of volume for design. This piece has three large medallions that are separated by thunder and lightning designs. One medallion has an avanyu surrounding a kiva moon.  The next medallion has a cloud covered moon.  The third has a thunderstorm with rain and fog on the ground.  Along the base of the jar are walking bear paws and fog clouds.  The jar is deeply carved and highly polished. The neck is slipped with mica, and there are clouds carved into the negative space.  It is a striking large jar with carving that encompasses the entire surface!   The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay “Nathan Youngblood” and the hallmark of his name in Tewa.
