Youvella, Nolan – Jar with Carved Mudhead Katsinas and Corn (1998)

Nolan Youvella was a son of noted potters Iris Nampeyo and Wallace Youvella.  He was known for his relief-carved pottery.  This jar has a high shoulder and asymmetric rim. One side is carved with two Mudhead katsinas facing a stalk of corn. The background area is also fully incised with small lines. The remainder of the jar is fully polished.  The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Nolan Youvella Namepyo”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
