Youvella, Nolan – Jar with Pueblo and Kiva Scene (1990s)

4"w x 4.25"h

$ 775.00

Nolan Youvella was a son of noted potters Iris Nampeyo and Wallace Youvella.  He was known for his relief carved and incised pottery.  This jar is one of his famous Pueblo building and kiva bowls.  The piece has two buildings in relief and one kivas.  The adobe bricks of the buildings are all incised into the clay.  For the size of the piece, there is a lot of design and detail.  The remainder is polished tan, the natural color of the clay.  The jar was traditionally fired, so there are subtle blushes on the surface.  The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Nolan Youvella Nampeyo”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
