This jar by Alice Cling has a tall, elongated form. It is a more classic Navanjo form inspired by the Navajo “Tus”, or water jar. The jar is fully polished red with a band of green and black slips around the neck. The piece was fired outside. The jar has a deep color from the smoke and fire. The colors on this piece vary from black to a deep red. The jar was covered in pinon pitch after the firing, a continuation of the traditional Navajo pottery when pinon pitch was used to make the pottery waterproof. It is signed on the bottom in the clay. Alice has won numerous awards for her pottery and been featured in books such as “Legacy of Generations.”
