Robert Cleto Nichols is known for his deep-carved pottery. Each piece is coil-built, carved, and stone polished. This is one of the largest pieces we have seen of his pottery. It is very deeply carved with a large parrot and fish as the designs. The piece is carved into sections and each is stone polished. The jar was traditionally fired a deep black coloration. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Robert Cleto Nichols”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Robert Cleto Nichols is known for his deep-carved pottery. Each piece is coil-built, carved, and stone polished. This is one of the largest pieces we have seen of his pottery. It is very deeply carved with a large parrot and fish as the designs. The piece is carved into sections and each is stone polished. The jar was traditionally fired a deep black coloration. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Robert Cleto Nichols”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Robert Cleto Nichols is a grandson of Severa Tafoya and son of Mela Tafoya. His aunts Lydia and Angela Baca were also well known for their pottery. He is a cousin to potters Paul Speckled Rock, Tina Garcia, Greg Garcia and David Baca. Robert is known for his deeply carved pottery that is very light in weight and highly polished.
