Tyra Naha is a daughter of Rainy Naha. She learned to make pottery from her mother and continues to make traditional-style Hopi-Tewa pottery in the style of her grandmother, Helen “Feather Woman” Naha. This jar is coil-built and painted with native clay slips and bee weed (black). The jar has four lizards. Two have triangular mountain designs, and two are multi-color with geometric patterns. Tyra said of this piece: “The lizard design is from my aunt Sylvia Naha, with Sekahkey and Awatovi designs.” Separating each of the lizards are multi-color geometric rain and cloud patterns. The coloration is visually striking. The bowl was traditionally fired. It is signed on the bottom with a feather and spider (Spider Clan ) and a “3” for being the Third Generation of the Naha family.
