Jamie Zane Smith creates dynamic pieces that combine strong forms with stamped surface designs. This jar is entitled, “Transformations”.  Jamie says of the piece:

“The form of this piece echoes the single castellated shape of the Wyandot kettle vessel. In a pot of this shape wild and cultivated plants were rendered into food and medicine. The design of the stamp detail refers to traditional symbolism as well as growth patterns in plants and natural formations. It is a visual representation of the origin of the world and movement within. My vision in the design is that the material contained in this vessel is transformed into life and culture sustaining potential.”

The jar has a round body and an Iroquois rim.  The body has plant designs impressed into the clay.  The neck is polished and incised to almost feel like leather!  the jar is one of his few pieces to have a lid.  It is signed on the bottom, “Jamie Zane Smith”.  Jamie brings together a multitude of dimensions in his work, blending the historic past with his modern visions.  Jamie remains one of the young creative potters bringing life to the clay in an area outside the southwest.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
