Cata, Thea Rose – Wedding Vase with Carved Handle

4"w x 5.5"h

$ 275.00

Thea Rose Cata is a descendant of Elizabeth Tafoya Lovato (San Ildefonso) and Mary R. Cata (Ohkay Owingeh).  She comes from two distinguished families of potters.  Her pottery is made from native clay, coil-built, carved, incised, or painted and traditionally fired.  This wedding vase is made from native clay and has a micaceous clay slip on the surface. The handle is carved so that it has a “squared off” appearance and seems to twist.  The wedding vase was traditionally fired and it has color variations across the surface of the piece.  It is signed, T. Rose.  We are excited to see more from Thea and hope she spurs on another revival of Ohkay Owingeh pottery for the new century!
