This is one of the few pieces we have had by Susie Youvella. She was the mother of Wallace Youvella and mother-in-law of Iris Nampeyo Youvella.  She was known for her thin-walled pottery.  This plate has a hummingbird in the center. It is surrounded by panels of design with feathers, clouds, rain, and rain patterns.  The plate is painted with bee-weed (black) and polished red areas.  The piece was traditionally fired creating some blushes to the surface.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “Susie Youvella”.
