It is not often that we get in red pieces from Jennifer Tafoya. This is a highly polished, red jar with both traditional and realistic designs. The piece is round with a short neck, and it is polished to an extremely glossy finish. The jar was fired red and has a micaceous background. The bowl is fully designed with a traditional rain avanyu, swirling clouds, and 6 hyper realistic swallows flying around the piece. Each is realistically etched into the clay. Jennifer uses various clays to create the colorations on the piece’s surface. All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jennifer Tafoya”. Jennifer continues to be one of the leading innovative potters working today! She most recently won the “Tony Da Award” for innovative pottery at Santa Fe Indian Market in 2019 and “Best of Show” in 2023!
