Gutierrez, Lela & Van – Square Polychrome Bowl with CLouds (1940s)

7"w x 7"w x 4.5"h

$ 1,500.00

Lela Gutierrez began making pottery in the 1930s with her husband, Van Gutierrez.  After Van passed away in 1956 she continued to make pottery with her son, Luther Gutierrez. This bowl is distinctive in form with flat sides creating a square shape.  The bowl is painted with cloud designs on each of the four sides.  Note the little medallion with a stippled background and a tiny bird!  The bowl has a matte red base.  Definitely a fascinating piece! It is in good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair with some wear near the base.   It is signed, “Van / Lela” on the bottom.
