Medina, Elizabeth – Four Color Jar with Star and Flower Designs

8.5"w x 9"h

$ 500.00

This is an unusual Zia jar by Elizabeth Medina.  She is known for her traditional style of Zia pottery.  Each piece is coil-built, painted with native clays, and native-fired.  This jar has a round shoulder and a short neck.  It is the design that is unusual on this piece. The top half has four large stars that are polished tan or red.  Each star is surrounded by smaller cloud patterns.  Below the shoulder are four flowers with triangular band polished red or tan. In the center of each is a checkerboard pattern and hatchure linear petals. It is a striking and very complex jar.  The top of the jar has a lid with a red polished base and a bear on top with a bird and flower as the design.  The jar signed on the side is “Elizabeth Medina, Zia”.
