Nampeyo, Iris – Tan Jar Asymmetric Rim and Corn in Relief (1980s)
$ 1,200.00
This is an early bowl by Iris Nampeyo. Iris began using the corn in relief on the surface of her pottery in the early 1980’s. The corn is symbolic of being part of the Corn Clan. The bowl has a round shape and a flat top, in a classic Hopi style. The entire piece is fully polished, and the corn on the top is in relief. The corn kernels are incised and the ear of corn is matte but in high relief on the piece. The remainder is fully polished. It was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface. It is signed on the bottom, ‘Iris Nampeyo”. It is excellent with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
