Thomas Tenorio is from the Aguilar family of Kewa Pueblo. Amazingly, he taught himself to make pottery! This is a classic jar with a round body and an elongated neck. The jar is painted with a red clay slip along with the black on a white surface. There are lightning designs around the neck and flower petals around the shoulder. Below the shoulder are sun, moon, and mesa designs. The jar has a lid with a flower design. The piece is signed, “Thomas Tenorio”. It is from 2006 and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.

Description
Thomas Tenorio is from the Aguilar family of Kewa Pueblo. Amazingly, he taught himself to make pottery! This is a classic jar with a round body and a sloping neck. The jar is painted with a red clay slip along with the black. The area above the shoulder has the rounded flower petals. Around the body of the jar are the circular sun designs. The jar is striking in appearance with the contrasting red and black coloration against the white clay slip. The jar has a red lid. The piece is signed, “Thomas Tenorio”. It is from 2008 and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.

Thomas Tenorio is from the Aguilar family of Kewa Pueblo. His name in Keres is U-Nah-Thee-Wah. When he began making pottery he felt that the ancient traditional methods of pottery making was dying within his pueblo so he was inspired to try and resurrect the long lived legacy. Thomas taught himself to make traditional pottery by reading textbooks, conducting one on one interviews with other pottery makers and research. He has won awards at Santa Fe Indian Market for his large scale pottery.
