Analla, Calvin – 8″ Wide Bowl with “Prayer Birds” (2010)

8"w x 3.5"h

$ 875.00

Calvin Analla learned to make pottery from his sister, Yvonne Lucas, and her husband, Steve Lucas. This wide bowl is made by mixing two different types of clay together, which creates the mottled appearance of the clay. The bowl is thin-walled and painted with bee-weed for the black.

Calvin said of the designs:

“This bowl is a prayer of prosperity.  The designs in the middle are of prayer birds, and they take our prayers to the heavens. They are surrounded by clouds.  This bowl has amazing coloration from the firing”.

The inside of the bowl is as striking as the design, with the unique flow of the clay colorations.  The bowl was traditionally fired.  It is signed, “C. Analla, Jr.”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
