Calvin Analla learned to make pottery from his sister, Yvonne Lucas, and her husband, Steve Lucas. This jar is made by mixing two different types of clay together. That creates the mottled appearance of the clay. The jar is thin-walled and painted with bee-weed for the black. Calvin said of the designs: “Each panel represents a Hunter Katsina face. The katsinas only come in the winter to Dance one night for Blessings”. The jar was traditionally fired. It is signed, “C. Analla, Jr.”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
