Aragon, John – Bowl with Mimbres Animals (2003)

7"w x 5.5"h

$ 600.00

John Aragon is known for his use of Mimbres imagery on his pottery.  John learned to make pottery from his mother, Florence Aragon.  This bowl is coil-built and very tightly painted with numerous Mimbres-style animals.  Each animal is different and they encompass the entire surface of the piece, each in a different direction.  It is unusual that he accented each animal with a red clay slip, as opposed to his usual black-and-white designs.  However, the result is visually striking.  John has an amazing ability to fit so many images onto one piece and still have it look cohesive! The bowl is signed on the bottom, “J. Aragon”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
