Atencio, Gregorita – Incised Polychrome Jar with Birds (1940’s)
Gregorita Atencio began making pottery in the 1940s. She was not part of the “original seven” but quickly followed in their style. This jar is incised with birds as the designs. The birds are designed as a rainbow over a mountain style body. The neck and the base are polished with the deep red clay coloration of this period. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Gregorita Atencio”. The jar is in good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
