9"w x 10"h

$ 5,500.00

This is a large polychrome water jar by Blue Corn.  She is often best known for her polychrome pottery and her creative use of various clay slips on her pottery. She learned to make pottery from Maria Martinez at San Ildefonso.  This tall jar has a sharp shoulder and an elongated neck.  The jar is fully polished whitish-cream in coloration.  Around the neck is a checkerboard pattern. Along the top of the shoulder are 24 painted feathers. The checkerboard pattern has an orange clay slip while the tips of the feathers are taupe.  Below the shoulder are bands of orange and taupe. The jar has four different colors of clay, making it a true polychrome (more than 3 colors).  The jar was traditionally fired.  The jar is signed on the bottom “Blue Corn, San Ildefonso”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
