Blue Corn – Polychrome Water Jar with 24 Feathers and Mountain Designs (1970s)

6"w x 7"h

$ 1,600.00

This is a classic polychrome water jar by Blue Corn.  She is certainly one of the most creative potters of her time with a varied use of clays and firing techniques to create her distinctive pottery. This piece has a sharp shoulder and an elongated neck. The neck has a mountain and cloud pattern.  The area above the shoulder has 24 painted feathers.  The feathers and clouds are highlighted with ochre-colored clay.  The remainder of the jar is fully polished.  It is always fascinating to see how Blue Corn used various colors to accentuate the tightly painted designs.  The piece was traditionally fired.  It is signed in the clay, “Blue Corn”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
