Blue Corn – Polychrome Water Jar with 29 Feathers (1970s)

3.75"w x 4"h

$ 875.00

This is a classic polychrome water jar by Blue Corn.  She is certainly one of the most creative potters of her time with a varied use of clays and firing techniques to create her distinctive pottery. This piece has a sharp shoulder and an elongated neck. The surface of the jar is polished a gray coloration.  Around the shoulder is a dark green band.  There are 29 feathers around the neck of the jar, each tightly painted.  The ends of each feather are highlighted with a red-colored clay.   It is always fascinating to see how Blue Corn used various colors to accentuate the tightly painted designs.  The piece was traditionally fired.  It is signed in the clay, “Blue Corn”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
