Candelaria, Daryl – Large Traditional San Felipe Rainclouds and Flowers Jar

11.25"w x 8.25"h

$ 1,200.00

Daryl Candelaria is one of the few potters working at San Felipe Pueblo.  He studied both historic and contemporary pottery at the School of American Research in Santa Fe, NM.  This is a complex traditional design on a San Felipe water jar. The jar is coil-built, slipped with white clay and painted with brown and red clay slips. The jar has large rectangular rainclouds on three sides, They are surrounded by more spiraling rain cloud designs.  The neck has additional cloud patterns.  Note the use of the thin lines as part o the imagery. The dark brown clay has just a bit of mica which gives it a “sparkle”.  It is signed, “Daryl Candelaria” on the bottom, and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. Definitely, a creative jar inspired by the traditional designs of San Felipe Pueblo!
