Cata, Myrtle – 11″ Tall Double Shoulder Water Jar (2004)
$ 800.00
Myrtle Cata was born in San Felipe Pueblo and, when she married, moved to Ohkay Owingeh. She learned to make pottery from noted Santa Clara potter Tina Garcia. Myrtle has been making pottery since 1985 and works primarily in micaceous clay. This is an exceptional large water jar. It has a wide double shoulder, with an elongated neck and a turned-out rim. It is made with clay from Ohkay Owingeh but slipped on the surface with mica. The shape and color are elegant! It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed, “Myrtle Cata” on the bottom. While Myrtle no longer makes pottery, her work is a classic for Ohkay Owingeh pottery.
