Cata, Myrtle – Melon Jar with Six Ribs (2004)
$ 150.00
Myrtle Cata was born at San Felipe Pueblo and when she married moved to Ohkay Owingeh. She learned to make pottery from noted Santa Clara potter Tina Garcia. Myrtle has been making pottery since 1985 and works primarily in micaceous clay. This is a small melon jar. It has six ribs that are pushed out from the inside. The jar is slipped with mica and it is a simple but classic form. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed, “Myrtle Cata” on the bottom. While Myrtle no longer makes pottery, her work is a classic for Ohkay Owingeh pottery.
